All the attacker needs do is draw the victim to a specially built website with malicious code or hack a popular site and implant the malicious code in it. When this kind of vulnerability is exploited, the user doesn’t need to be convinced to download or install anything. One of the most dangerous types of vulnerabilities in a browser engine is a so-called zero-click vulnerability, which allows bad actors to infect an iPhone without any action by the user. This includes vulnerabilities that attackers are already using in the wild. Since iPhones are a very tempting target for hackers, security specialists study the WebKit engine all the more closely, and as a result, they find vulnerabilities in it rather often. This means that all vulnerabilities found in WebKit present a danger for users of any browsers for iOS. This means that all browsers for iOS are essentially Safari with different user interfaces.Įxcerpt from the iOS app developer rules: “Apps that browse the web must use the appropriate WebKit framework and WebKit JavaScript.” In keeping with Apple’s policies, there is only one engine permitted in iOS - you guessed it: WebKit. However, it’s a different story for iPhones. The Chrome and Firefox versions for desktop computers and Android are built on Google’s V8 engine and Mozilla’s Gecko/Quantum engine, respectively. Finally, the third giant of the modern web is Apple’s engine - Webkit, which is used in the Safari browser.īut here’s the thing. There is also the Gecko engine - its modern version is called Quantum - which Mozilla developed and supports for the Firefox browser and a few others. Google uses its own V8 engine in its Chrome and Chromium browsers, while Microsoft Edge and dozens of other browsers are based on Chromium. There are three major browser engines in the world. Think of the browser engine like the engine of a car: it’s the most important part of a browser and without it you won’t get anywhere. Of course, the browser has a bunch of other necessary and useful parts that direct the engine and ensure that the additional features work. Every browser in iOS is SafariĮvery browser is based on what is called an “engine.” The engine processes the code that is received from the internet and transforms it into the web pages that the browser ultimately shows the user. In this post, we give you the lowdown and tell you why you need to make sure that Safari and WebKit on your iPhone are always updated in time. IPhone users who prefer alternative browsers might get lulled into thinking that the vulnerabilities in Safari and the WebKit engine don’t present a direct danger to them. Lots of iPhone users aren’t crazy about the iOS built-in browser, Safari, and prefer to use an alternative - Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or even something more exotic like DuckDuckGo, Brave or Microsoft Edge (yes, there’s Edge for iOS!). While you can cut a 2-inch-thick piece of cheddar with the base/block model, cheese slicers are better suited for thinner slices. There is more room for flexibility in thickness when cutting with a base/block-style cheese slicer, because you can move as much or as little of the cheese block under the wire or blade as you like. Keep in mind that these models take up more storage space. It’s generally easier to slice cheeses using a base/block slicer. When it comes to cutting cheese, most of the work is done by the blade, if it’s sharp enough. Ergonomic handles also can mitigate wrist and grip strain.īase/block models have large handles that allow you to put pressure on the blade without straining. A strong handle helps with steady and constant pressure during cutting, and the shape or contour can reduce strain. If you had a large amount of cheese to cut, your wrist and hand take the brunt of the stress. ComfortĬomfort is important when it comes to handheld cheese slicers. Plastic handles, some featuring a silicone sleeve, are also common for comfort and ergonomics. The bodies of handheld models are usually constructed of lighter, more durable materials like zinc alloy. The variety has more to do with personal preference, as some prefer the natural look of wood, others prefer nonporous steel, and some choose plastic cutting surfaces. Functionally, these materials are similar. The base portion of these models are made from various materials like metal, wood, plastic. It’s also tough enough to cut through harder cheeses that have a moisture content of less than 50 percent, like Romano and Parmesan. Steel is one of the few metals that can be considered food grade. Stainless steel is the most common material used for blades and cutting wires. Some cheese slicers of this type can actually function as a serving board. These apply a guillotine-like cutting motion with a wire or steel blade. Operating a tool like this means drawing the blade or wire across the top of the cheese to create a shaving.īase, also known as block, models are designed for use on a countertop or tabletop. The other handheld design features a shaving blade inserted in the middle of a shovel-style head. For some models, the tension on the wire can be adjusted. One type is a slingshot, or Y-shaped, model that slices cheeses with a taut wire stretched parallel to the blade. If you’re trying to figure out which style is best for your needs and budget, read on. There are different forms and styles of cheese slicers, and some can cut foods other than cheese. Our clever design allows the wire to pass completely and efficiently through the cheese into the groove below ready for your party cheese plate.Photo: What to Consider When Choosing the Best Cheese Slicer This cheese slicer can cut semi-hard, and soft cheese, fruit, vegetables, handmade soap. 12/9/2023 0 Comments Applejack brandy recipesColonists often started their day with a swig of applejack, and preferred hard cider breaks to coffee breaks, the latter being too expensive an indulgence. Apple cider and cider spirits were a daily part of colonial life. While Lisa says that distilling began almost immediately, the first official bill of sale emerges in 1780, which is used as the official founding date for the company.īy Lisa’s account, this was a good business to be in. Those first American Lairds soon began distilling apple spirits, as the fruit-smaller and more bitter than apples today-was plentiful and not eaten. They arrived in Monmouth, New Jersey, in 1678, and the family has only moved a half mile in the last 340 years. The first-Lisa’s seventh and eighth degree great grandfathers-were scotch distillers fleeing religious persecution in County Fife, Ireland. Lairds have been in the United Sates since before there was any such thing. “Obviously, that is not what we’re tasting today,” Lisa says. The intense process also gave it such names as “Jersey Lightning,” “Corpse Reviver,” Essence of Lockjaw,” “Slug of Bluefish Quills,” and “Horn of Gunpowder.”īut don’t let those fanciful monikers scare you off from applejack-we’ve come a long way. The water would freeze, and as they kept re-freezing it, it would continuously condense the product. “They would take the hard cider and put it outside to freeze. “Most colonists made their Applejack through jacking,” Lisa says. Lisa traces the term “applejack” to colonial times, when apple brandy was made through the process of freeze distillation, or “jacking.” Okay, now I gotta go make me one of these because it’s 5 o’clock RIGHT HERE and I can’t take it anymore.Over the course of Thirst Boston this past April, I had the chance to meet Lisa Laird and attend her seminar titled “Applejack: America’s Native Spirit.” That’s a bold claim, but Laird herself is a testament to its truth: she represents the ninth generation of America’s oldest distilling family, the Lairds of Laird’s Apple Brandy.įrom the role of the Laird family in the American Revolution to their hand in creating the blended applejack category, here are just a few of the things I learned from Lisa. I’d compare it most to sweeter, chilled whiskey with citrusy, orange characteristics. The true old fashioned cocktail is not sweet, it also shouldn’t have more than an orange peel in it (no pulp). It’s meant to help balance out the cocktail and add flavor. The oils from the peel add a lot more flavor and aroma than you may think. It’s simply not the same cocktail without it. Don’t Skip the Orange Peelĭon’t underestimate the power of the orange peel in an old fashioned. True flavors and aroma of fall in every sip. My personal final touch is the cinnamon stick-it completes the Fall circle of maple, orange, apple, and cinnamon. Lastly, it’s garnished with an orange peel. This cocktail used whiskey barrel-aged bitters or black walnut bitters in place of your typical Angostura bitters, which gives the drink more of an oaky flavor. Maple syrup is used in place of sugar or simple syrup (which is essentially sugar water), to infuse it with darker natural maple and vanilla flavors. It has very subtle notes of apple and cinnamon spice (and it’s actually made with fresh apples). The secret ingredient is Laird’s Applejack brandy (There is no real substitute in my eys). The Fall old fashioned tastes exactly how you’d expect it would. In summary, producing and storing high-quality silage can be achieved with proper considerations for harvest management and timing. The primary function of a silo is to provide protection from the elements to increase the storage life of the grains. Additional information about silages and other wet forages from the Iowa Beef Center can also be found here. Any extra time spent to thoroughly cover bunker silos and obtain a good seal around bunker sidewalls is also a good investment. For bunker silos, pack silage as tightly as possible in progressive wedges in depths of 6 inches or less. When harvest begins, fill silos rapidly to reduce exposure of silage to oxygen and to reduce fungal growth. If two or more half or full kernels are present in a 32-ounce cup of silage, then more kernel breakage is needed. This is because the breakage of cobs and kernels increases surface area, which improves digestibility, reduces cob sorting by cows, and results in higher density silage that packs better. Length of cut and crop processing are also important for obtaining high-quality corn silage. Corn stalks though, are a good source of fiber and the lower tonnage with chopping silage at a higher cutting height typically makes it difficult to justify doing so in the absence of high nitrate levels. However, it also means a reduction in forage yield by 10-15%. This leads to a decrease in forage moisture by 3-4% and an increase in forage quality by 8-12%. Cutting at 12 inches leaves the wettest, poorest quality part of the plant in the field. Silage with high nitrate levels can be managed by dilution with other feeds or by increasing the cutting height up to 12 inches. For assistance on how to sample a corn field for nitrate levels, the Iowa Beef Center also has this article. An article on Nitrate Toxicity and Testing from the Iowa Beef Center can be found here. The potential for high nitrate silage can be made even worse if drought-stressed silage is harvested within 10 days of a rainfall event, since the rain increases crop uptake of soil nitrogen. However, drought-stressed corn can accumulate nitrates in the lower part of the stalk, thus increasing the potential for nitrate poisoning, particularly in older livestock on lower-energy rations. Generally, a cutting height of 4 to 6 inches is recommended for corn silage, as it maximizes silage yield and quality. Directions for using a microwave oven are included in the following publication. A short article from the University of Wisconsin on whole plant moisture variability in the field, desired moisture for various storage structures, and procedures for moisture determination of corn silage can be found here. A general guideline is to begin moisture testing when the milkline is 1/4 of the way down the kernel for horizontal silos or bunkers, and 1/2 of the way down the kernel for vertical silos. Instead, kernel milkline should be used as an indicator of when to collect the first silage samples for moisture testing. But due to variability among hybrids and growing conditions, it is necessary to measure silage moisture using a commercial forage moisture tester or microwave oven rather than simply estimating it from the kernel milkline. Optimum silage moisture at harvest ranges from 50-60% for upright oxygen-limiting silos, 60-65% for upright stave silos, 60-70% for bags, and 65-70% for bunkers.Īs a forage crop, corn generally reaches maximum yield and quality around 50% kernel milkline development or R5.5. In addition, dry silage does not pack as well, increasing the potential for air pockets and mold. If silage is too dry, it has lower digestibility because of harder kernels and more lignified stover. Silage that is too wet when harvested may not ferment properly and can lose nutrients through seepage. Understanding proper harvest management and timing is critical for producing high-quality corn silage. Corn is a high yielding, high energy, low protein forage that is commonly used for growing and finishing beef cattle, in cow-calf production systems, for growing dairy heifers, and for lactating dairy cows. However, harvest has started early in some droughty areas with light soils. Historically, corn silage harvest starts within the next two weeks. 12/8/2023 0 Comments Under siege 2 apple newtonInstead, ’s Gravesande’s views on such matters correspond more closely to certain interpretations of Leibniz’s Théodicée. On topics such as liberty, necessity, and theodicy, these writings deviate from what Newtonianism is usually taken to stand for. Here I show that this view is not tenable when we take account of ’s Gravesande’s metaphysical writings. In the case of ’s Gravesande (1688–1742), it has often been assumed that he used a particular form of Newtonianism to combat rationalist metaphysics, particularly Spinozism. I argue that we will understand the intellectual history of the early eighteenth century better if we let go of essentialist taxonomic views and instead pay attention to the historical trajectories of various actors and ideas. More generally, it opposes the tendency to read the work of eighteenth-century natural philosophers as being part of well-defined strands of Newtonianism. It is fitting then, that.Ryback's costuming progresses from a white cook's uniform.to an olive tank top, to the all-black garb that merges Ryback with the ship, and with which Segal came to be identified. This article challenges the scholarly consensus on Willem Jacob ’s Gravesande’s philosophy, namely the view that it was predominantly influenced by Newton, Locke, and Descartes. As the action genre tends toward hyperbole, Rybeck is an amalgam of everything that signifies Ultimate Warrior status, even more than Riggs had been in Lethal Weapon. Make sure youre on target, as you practice shooting with rifles, or for beginners and youngsters there are options for a gentler laser gun. As Eric Lichtenfeld writes, "Ryback.is the ultimate warrior. As David West writes, Under Siege is "cut from the same cloth as the 'Die Hard' series and stars Seagal as Casey Ryback." Often the character of Ryback has been criticised in the media due the the fact that he is invincible and would defeat his opponents rather too easily, removing the element of surprise in his personal combat. His cooking also appears in both movies as a subtext to his being a SEAL Influence and reception Ĭasey Ryback became one of well known names of action heroes in the action film genre in the 1990s compared to the likes of John McClane from the Die Hard films. He also uses the knife as his weapon of choice in both movies to battle the villain, Strannix, and Penn. You can watch this movie online in HD with subs on Amazon Video, Apple iTunes, Google Play Movies, Netflix, YouTube. Ryback uses an Apple Newton MessagePad prominently in key scenes during the second movie, especially its ability to fax documents. House, Matthew Marsden, and Omari Newton. In the second film, one of the chefs at the restaurant claims that people come to hear Ryback's stories. One reason for this could be that the events of the first film made Ryback an international hero. He is considered to be the most skilled counter-terrorist in the world and even the fearless mercenary leader Marcus Penn ( Everett McGill) claims that Ryback is the only man he has ever been afraid of. During a private audition for Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, Seagal allegedly urged Jenny McCarthy to strip nude for him, despite. However in the sequel, Under Siege 2 where Ryback boards a train with his niece to visit a recently deceased brother in Los Angeles from Denver the mercenaries that hijack the train have full knowledge of the man they are dealing with once they hear his name. In the first film it is unknown to the mercenaries of the USS Missouri (BB-63) who Ryback is, believing he was just a mere cook which added an element of surprise to the onslaught which followed. At the end of the first film his former position was given back to him in a ceremony following his bravery, but at the beginning of the sequel it appears that he had retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant, as shown by the salute and verbal greeting from his driver in the beginning of the film, and was working as a chef at the Mile High Cafe in Denver, Colorado. He had lost his security clearance and was said to only be able to serve as a administrative yeoman or a cook. Ryback was relegated to his posting as a chef for striking an officer who had gotten his men killed in a failed commando mission during the invasion of Panama. 12/8/2023 0 Comments Convert a pages document to pdfSet a file name for the output PDF and select a location to save to, then click "Export".
